Lurkers and posters?

What makes people only want to lurk on forum's vs people who want to participate? I see this on Phil's forum also. There maybe a thread started with tons of people viewing it but very few people adding to it? Seem like there are about 8-10 that will actually participate.

A lot of times the only time people will post something is if there is some type of controversy. Why is that? Cant people get on the forums and speak up? Voice there oppions? Maybe just add something to the post with out flaming someone? Maybe no one has anything to say? Maybe people are afraid that someone will take it out of context? Heck if it is grammar or miss spelled words I sure you can look at almost all my post and see each. Maybe people just dont have the time to or they are not computer savy enough? Anyone??????????
